Happy Fourth of July

My attempt at Fourth of July decorating.

Bay City, MI Fireworks

Usually, I go over to Windsor, Canada to watch the fireworks on the Detroit River, but this year I went to Bay City, Michigan and they have three days of impressive fireworks.  It may take a minute of this to load, but it will eventually load on your device.

BOOK OF THE WEEK (LIBRO DE LA SEMANA)

Galloway’s 5K/10K Running

by Jeff Galloway

If you want to get into running or resume running this summer, I recommend this book; especially for older runners.  It offers a fun and sensible approach to running the 5K and 10K.

Wonder Woman

Critics Consensus: Thrilling, earnest, and buoyed by Gal Gadot’s charismatic performance, Wonder Woman succeeds in spectacular fashion. (Source: Rotten Tomatoes)

LAST WEEK’S POLL – Jokes About Killing a Sitting USA President

Do you believe it is appropriate for celebrities to make jokes about killing the President of the USA?

82% – Never, under any circumstances

14% – Yes, they have the right of free speech

4% – Depends upon the particular president

I usually refrain from comment on poll results and I have lost a couple of blog followers,  but this issue is so important I have to say something.

When it comes to “Free speech”, it is well established that does not include the right to yell “Fire” in a crowded theater.  There are limits on free speech and I believe advocating the killing of a USA President may fall within the limitation.

As for those who think it depends upon the particular president, all I can say is that no president is liked by everyone, so where would that approach lead us.

THIS WEEK’S POLL – How long do you expect to live?

Typically the choices we make every day has more to do with our health than anything else.  And a positive attitude towards getting older plays a major role in how we age.  If you expect to be weak and dependent, you probably will.  And if you expect to be strong, healthy and vital; you likely will.

I read in AARP that a 65-year-old today can expect to live well into their 80s. And that a 10-year-old child today has a 50% chance of living to 104.

EXTRAORDINARY PERSON OF THE WEEK

(PERSONA EXTRAORDINARIA DE LA SEMANA)

Walter

I’m not going to say much about this fellow out of respect for his and his family’s privacy, but he is extraordinary on so many levels (Family, business, character, etc.).  But I think this brief clip will give you an idea of  just how extraordinary Walter is in some many ways.  Sure, some of us light up the Fourth of July night with sparklers or fire crackers; Walter uses a flame thrower.

THIS WEEK’S JOKE (BROMA DE LA SEMANA)

Given that it is Fourth of July, I thought some English humor may be appropriate

  1. Thanks Bill. I enjoyed the firework also, right in my sons back yard. My 2 sons had a lot of them to light and all the neighbors were doing their’s. Seen a bunch of fireworks in 3 or 4 different directions from the back yard. It was pretty impressive. You have a cool 4th of July lawn ornament. That is true about rarely find true friends. I’m blessed, I have a few for keeps. The poll I took about how long do I expect to live. Most people said 80 or 90’s. I said 70. If I am blessed enough to make it to 70 or older, then at that point I’ll my change it to 80.

  2. I agree with what you said on your poll, but a poll is to map people’s opinions and in that we are always 100% free. Whether we agree or disagree, people have the right to think what they think, regardless of what is right in someone else’s opinion.

I am not sure of this week’s poll loaded correctly on my phone (I did try answering all questions, but they just keep loading and nothing happens, lol!), so here’s my master answer: I am so making it to 100! :p Just because that has a nice ring to it (imagine being a century old!) and I am a little OCD so no need to die before I hit three digits imo. And just 100, too. Or 111, come to think of it.

  3. Hi Wm.! I am glad you had a good 4th, complete with fireworks! That flame thrower is huge – I’d better stand back so I keep all of my fingers… I didn’t see the fireworks here on Canada Day but I enjoyed them through your video 🙂
