CURRENT EVENTS (RECIENTES ACONTECIMIENTOS)
Last Monday (July 24, 2017), I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go on another Detroit Slow Roll. There were so many people on that ride and I saw some of the coolest bikes. I also got some ideas for making my bike a bit cooler.
The Detroit Police Department did a wonderful job of keeping us all safe by stopping traffic at the intersections. Overall Detroit looked great and the citizens of Detroit are so welcoming. Detroit is coming back.

Speaking of running, I was in the Bloomfield Hills “Heart of the Hills” 5K with my friends Harmony, Lindsey, Tania and Walter. We each received a “Finishers” medal.

BOOK OF THE WEEK (LIBRO DE LA SEMANA)
I have read and reviewed this book a number of times over the years and each time I found it worth reading.
Amador
by Fernando Savater
Translated by Alastair Reid
Over the course of nine intensely focused chapters the advice of a father to his son on the art of living become a treatise on ethics, understanding the nature of freedom, and finding the life worth living well. (Source: Amazon)
MOVIES OF THE WEEK (PELÍCULAS DE LA SEMANA)
Here I am watching more Canadian CBC shows and this one is a riot, it is so funny and I suspect you have found yourself in some of these situations.
Kim’s Convenience
The misadventures of a Korean-Canadian family running a convenience store. (Source: IMDB)
MUSIC OF THE WEEK (MÚSICA DE LA SEMANA)
Last week I featured The Big Bopper, who died in that terrible plane crash along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. I think Ritchie Valens is most noted for singing this song, but I am sorry to I could not find a video of him actually singing La Bamba.
La Bamba
By Ritchie Valens
This is not Ritchie Valens
It is Lou Diamond Phillips from the film La Bamba
LAST WEEK’S POLL – Where do you fall on your list of priorities?
71% – In the middle
21% – At or near the top
8% – At or near the bottom
THIS WEEK’S POLL – La Bamba
ART OF THE WEEK (ARTE DE LA SEMANA)
Back in 2011, I was in a half-marathon race in Arizona and visited Scottsdale. Here is a sample of some of the wall art I saw while there. If I recall correctly, this art moved, but I didn’t have a camera at the time that could capture the movement.

EXTRAORDINARY PERSON (CAT) OF THE WEEK
(PERSONA (GATO) EXTRAORDINARIA DE LA SEMANA)
Smarty
He lived up to his name.
Why would I make my cat the most extraordinary person (cat) of the week, perhaps this will explain why.

We loved running the 5k with you. Thanks for inspiring me and my family to run the 5K – I had no idea it would be so much fun. Kids are pushing me to sign up for the next race.

I’ve never done a slow roll, but it sounds kind of fun, though maybe a little crowded. Hope you’re doing well!

Thank you Chris for commenting. I just think these slow rolls are the coolest things, what a wonderful way of seeing a city. I used to think running was the best way to see a city, but I think slow roll is as good and a lot easier than running as you probably know from all your running. I understand NYC has a slow roll. As for crowded, that is an understatement. Oh my gosh, I now have mirrors on both sides of my handlebars. The crowd is a bit unnerving, but someone it all works out. I heard some folks refer to our slow roll as “no roll”, there were so many of us. Still, great fun. And I can’t say enough good things about the citizens of Detroit, they were fantastic supporters when I ran marathons and half-marathons and they are supportive of all us bike riders. No doubt NYC will be much the same. I really encourage you to give it a try.

Samantha, you are successful.
As for Smarty, I am sure he would rather you complement his intelligence rather than his exceptional good looks 🙂

You live in Detroit? That must be quite an adventure.

Thank you Georgia for commenting. I was born in Detroit and spent most of my life working in Detroit, but I live in Royal Oak (4 miles from the Detroit border) and I have seen a number of “Detroit Comebacks” come and go; but I think this one is going to stick.

I missed this one so I’m doing it now. If I lived up there it would be fun to be in the Detroit Slow Roll. I liked the movie LaBamba. I liked your 10 things to do for success. Smarty was such a beautiful cat. I don’t believe I ever seen one so fluffy and I’ve always loved the orangy color. . I’ll have to try that movie, Kim’s Concession.

Thanks for commenting Darlene. The Detroit Slow Roll is so much fun. Kim’s Concession is a Canadian Broadcast Corporation TV series and I just thought the show is fanatic.
