6/18/18 – Bob Kleven

CURRENT EVENTS (RECIENTES ACONTECIMIENTOS)

Bob Kleven

Died June 16, 2018

For many years, we were the best of friends, we had a lot of adventures and later in life went our separate ways for decades. I am so grateful I got back in touch with Bob this year, although we never got around to actually meeting.  Here is a photo he sent me of some of the old gang

When I received the above photo, I sent him a photo (below) I had hanging on my office wall.

If for some reason you have lost touch with someone, who was an important part of a chapter in your life, I urge you to renew the friendship while you can.

BOOK OF THE WEEK (LIBRO DE LA SEMANA)

I found this book well worth reading and it has information on some of the other famous Apache chiefs.  It is easy to read, interesting and has some worthwhile pictures.

The cousin and lifelong associate of Geronimo, Jason Betzinez relived his years on the warpath with the Apache chief. He participates in Geronimo’s eventual surrender to the U.S. Army, goes to Florida as a prisoner of war, attends the Carlisle Indian school in Pennsylvania, and in 1900 joins his people at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where they had been moved by the government six years earlier.  (Source: Amazon)

MOVIE OF THE WEEK (PELÍCULAS DE LA SEMANA)

I almost always enjoy an Agatha Christie mystery and this film was no exception.

(Yo casi siempre gozan de una Agatha Christie misterio y esta película no fue la excepción.)

Crooked House (2017)

In Agatha Christie’s most twisted tale, the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a wealthy patriarch is investigated by spy-turned-private-detective Charles Hayward (Max Irons), who is lured by his former lover to catch her grandfather’s murderer before Scotland Yard exposes dark family secrets.

On the sprawling estate, amidst a poisonous atmosphere of bitterness, resentment and jealousy in a truly crooked house, Hayward encounters three generations of the dynasty, including a theater actress (Gillian Anderson), the old man’s widow 50 years his junior (Christina Hendricks), and the family matriarch Lady Edith de Haviland (Glenn Close).

Dennis Rodman

Dennis Keith Rodman (born May 13, 1961)[2] is an American retired professional basketball player who played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association. [Wikipedia needs to update to include “diplomat extraordinaire”]

Rodman earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times and won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award twice. He also led the NBA in rebounds per game for a record seven consecutive years and won five NBA championships. His biography at NBA.com states that he is “arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history”. On April 1, 2011, the Pistons retired Rodman’s No. 10 jersey, and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later that year.

Rodman experienced an unhappy childhood and was shy and introverted in his early years. After aborting a suicide attempt in 1993, he reinvented himself as a “bad boy” and became notorious for numerous controversial antics. He repeatedly dyed his hair in artificial colors, had many piercings and tattoos, and regularly disrupted games by clashing with opposing players and officials. (Source: Wikipedia)

  1. Very nice tribute to Bob Kleven. If only everyone could say they have a great friend like you Bill. We did have some great times back in the day. Over time things change. People break up, some move away but to keep in touch with important famlly or frineds is very rewarding. I am so glad I am still friends with Donna Brinkman. Beth Warf, Debbie Fenton and Mike Jones and some others. All we need is love and forgiveness is important too. The ones who do not wish to stay in contact, that’s their choice and we have to respect that. Thanks for the old songs i listened to Feeling Groovy and still know all the words, Lol
