ART OF THE WEEK

I Was Here

I think many of us want to leave our mark on the world, so that someday someone in the future will know we were here. That is true today and apparently it was true 30,000 years ago, when someone left their handprint on the wall of a cave.

  EXTRAORDINARY PERSON  OF THE WEEK

Jane Austen

The only authenticated picture of Jane Austen is this small pencil and watercolor sketch made by her sister, Cassandra, on display in the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen’s plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favorable social standing and economic security.

With the publication of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote two other novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818.  Her six full-length novels have rarely been out of print, although they were published anonymously and brought her moderate success and little fame during her lifetime.   JOKE OF THE WEEK

I’m not sure buying this cake from Ikea was a good idea.

PHYSICAL TRAITS

CHARACTER TRAITS

SOCIAL TRAITS

Unfortunately, as you start doing better and better in life (however you wish to define that), some of your friends are going to be envious. They may discourage you or definitely not feel glad for you. You can try to hang on to these “so called” friends, but it is never going to be as it once was. Our success to them is a betrayal.

  1. I think Sense and Sensibility is a fab book, which is exactly why I don’t want to see the 2008 BBC version. I’m afraid it won’t live up to the book. Speaking of awesome films, I streamed Vivarium this weekend. It’s an awesome, artsy, cosmic horror movie, so well done.

  2. A couple of the voting questions asked to check all that apply but it didn’t work and only let me check only one. I LOVE the Sense and Sensibility movie with Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and many other stars. Also, Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth is excellent

    • Thank you Melissa for commenting and for mentioning the multiple choice questions not working. I thought that was fixed, but it isn’t. I enjoyed those movies you mentioned very much.
