CURRENT EVENTS (RECIENTES ACONTECIMIENTOS)
Looking for that perfect gift for someone important to you,
I suggest you give them your time.
But, for those of you that didn’t receive the traditional 24 hours a day
On a lighter note, Carol and I visited the Meadow Brook Hall Christmas Walk.
Meadow Brook Hall is a 100 room mansion on the campus of Oakland University
Above photos taken by a gentleman who appeared out of nowhere and offered to take our photos. When I asked him his name, he simply replied, “Santa Claus”.

BOOK OF THE WEEK (LIBRO DE LA SEMANA)
The Kirkus Review of this book said, “A touch on the dry side but a feast for classical scholars.”
Well, I am obviously not a classical scholar, but I did find this book a feast.
Rome’s Revolution

MOVIES OF THE WEEK (PELÍCULAS DE LA SEMANA)
If you like detective stories, these are well worth watching. I’ve mentioned the brilliant Belgian detective before and now I decided to watch the series from the beginning. Plus, if you like art deco, you will see a lot of it since the series takes place in Europe during the 1930s.
Agatha Christie Poirot Series
Gone Girl (2014)
“Gone Girl” certainly isn’t a Christmas movie, but what a movie. I saw it when it first came out and just watched it the other day and I still think it is an absolutely amazing film.
MUSIC OF THE WEEK (MÚSICA DE LA SEMANA)
A lot of people have sung this Christmas favorite and sang it very well, but none of the various versions of this song appeal to me as much as the Elvis version.
One could say I like it so much because my uncle, who was responsible for the shows at the Memphis Fair Grounds, knew Elvis; but, I say because Elvis is The King.

ART OF THE WEEK (ARTE DE LA SEMANA)
Film making is definitely an art and here is a little JibJab film that my friends Sue, Kristi and Kelly made for me when I retired in December 2009.
EXTRAORDINARY PERSON OF THE WEEK
(PERSONA EXTRAORDINARIA DE LA SEMANA)
Ebenezer Scrooge
Thomas D. Hahard, Meadow Brook Theater
Although Scrooge’s name came to represent a miser or person who is reluctant to spend, sometimes to the point of forgoing even basic comforts and some necessities, in order to hoard money, he demonstrated in later years, perhaps through divine intervention, that people can change.
In later years, it was said that no person kept Christmas, better than Ebenezer Scrooge, who used his wealth to benefit others.

Have you READ “Gone Girl”? I thought the book was even better than the movie. Maybe it was because I knew what was going to happen in the movie before it happened.
I like it that your photographer goes by “Santa Claus”.
And what a true statement about friends!

I never really thought about reading the book “Gone Girl”, but it would be interesting to compare the book with the film. Thank you for the suggestion.
As for the photographer, I told him I was going to put the photo in my blog and asked who should I credit the photo to and that was his answer–true story.
Yes, that statement about friends appeals to me also.
Thank you very much for commenting

I love Poirot! The series is wonderful. These also are from books written by Agatha Christie. Currently reading Murder on the Orient Express myself. If you enjoy Poirot, i also suggest Christie’s Miss Marple and many others. Her book And Then There Were None was an astonishing mystery

Wow, what a surprise. Great to hear from you Melissa. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2018.
I’ve been bouncing back and forth between Miss Marple. I’ve seen Seasons 4, 5 & 6 and have just started Season 1, which has a different actress.
I’m guessing you have seen the latest version of Murder on the Orient Express. I’ve also seen the older version and the TV series version. But I have never read any of Agatha Christie’s books. Perhaps, one day. Thank you for the suggestion.

Great post, Bill! Have you seen the new Murder on the Orient Express movie? If so, what did you think of it? My favorite book by Agatha Christie is AND THEN THERE WERE NONE. I highly recommend it!

Thanks for comment Chris. Yes, I have seen the new Murder on the Orient Express, plus the old version and David Suchet’s TV version of Murder on the Orient Express. I thought the new one was worth watching, but in my mind David Suchet is Hercule Poirot.
I understand “And Then There Were None” has been made into film a couple of times and even once by David Suchet. So I will definitely be watching those, now that you mentioned it.
On another notes, best wishes for your most impressive 2018 goals.
