BOOK OF THE WEEK

This little book (Literally 4 1/4″ X 5″) of less than 100 pages is a treasury of good advice on how to live. If you have any interest in becoming a better person, you should check this book out.

Philosophy for Everyday Life

MOVIE OF THE WEEK

I really liked this film. It is a little chaotic, with a few loose ends; but a great film. I found most reviewers agree with me that is it the best of the four Bogart/Bacall films.

I thought the General was a terrific guy, if you are going to be old and decrepit, be like the General.

As for the younger sister, whom you will meet at the start of this film–Wow.

Also, it is wonderful to see the 1946 contemporary cars.

You are looking at history, when you see this very entertaining film.

Who Wrote The Book of Love (1958)

The Monotones

Lead singer Charles Patrick heard a Pepsodent toothpaste commercial with the line “you’ll wonder where the yellow went”/ when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent”, which inspired him to come up with, “I wonder, wonder, wonder who, who wrote the book of love”. He worked it up into a song with Davis and Malone. The “boom” part of the song was a result of a kid kicking a ball against the garage while they were rehearsing. It sounded good, so they added it to the song. (Source: Wikipedia)

BOOK OF THE WEEK

This week’s book is an extremely readable and practical philosophy book. This book will help you with critical thinking, so that you don’t simply accept everything you see on Facebook and the news media as truth.

You may think that you don’t need to fine tune your own thinking. If that is your situation, all I can say is that I recall Uncle Tony once told me.

He said, “The only attribute the Lord distributed fairly was intelligence, not looks, strength, etc.”

I asked Uncle Tony, “Why do you say that?”

Uncle Tony replied, “Because intelligence in the only attribute that everyone thinks they received more than their fair share.”

MOVIE OF THE WEEK

The Worst Person in the World is a modern dramedy about the quest for love and meaning in contemporary Oslo. It chronicles four years in the life of Julie (Renate Reinsve), a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.

Caution:

This film isn’t for everyone, especially if you don’t like english subtitles, graphic nudity, drug use, etc.

I almost stopped watching, but in the end I was glad I stayed with it. I think it is an accurate description of some people’s lives. Plus, I’ve never been to Oslo, so it was interesting to see that city.

Hopefully Putin’s Invasion Will Backfire

After the Russians were driven out of Bucha, Ukraine, it was terrible what the Ukrainian liberators found. The murder of defenseless civilians by Russian criminals, mass graves, apparently torture, rape, etc.

How about some lighter reading this week. The Tao of Willie is a fun book to read and provides a great deal of wisdom.

MOVIE OF THE WEEK

Normally, when I see a film I don’t like, I simply don’t mention the film.

However, I feel life is simply too precious for anyone to waste on this 2 hour and 56 minutes of darkness.

If you have seen the film, please comment on what you think of it, whether you liked it or didn’t.
