ART OF THE WEEK
Kit-Cat Klock
The Kit-Cat Klock is an art deco novelty wall clock shaped like a grinning cat with cartoon eyes that swivel in time with its pendulum tail. It is traditionally black, but models in other colors and styles are available.
The first clock was designed by Earl Arnault (1904-1971) in 1932 and made by the Allied Manufacturing Company in Portland, Oregon. Allied subsequently moved to Seattle, Washington, in the early 1940s and then to southern California in 1962, whereupon it was renamed California Clock Company.
The clock’s design has changed little in the intervening years, with the first generation, manufactured from the 1930s–early 1950s having two paws and no bow tie, and newer models having four paws and a bow tie.
In the 1960s genuine crystals were added as accents to some clocks. The words “Kit-Cat” were added to the clock’s face in 1982. The original clocks were AC-powered, but due to scarcity of American-made AC motors, the clock was redesigned for battery power in the late 1980s.
The manufacturer estimates that an average of one clock has been sold every three minutes for the last 50 years.
EXTRAORDINARY PERSON OF THE WEEK
I have been friends with Americans and Germans, who served in WWII, I served in Vietnam with a sailor who was on the battleship and saw Japan sign their surrender papers. And I actually got to see President Eisenhower once in person.
General Dwight Eisenhower
Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969), was an American army general and statesman who served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961.
During World War II, he became a five-star general in the Army and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe. He was responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of Normandy in 1944–45 from the Western Front.

Memorial Day, or ‘Remembrance Day’ as it’s called here in Australia is commemorated in November.
Yes, we are avid Downton Abbey fans. I’m so pleased that Maggie Smith is still in the series. What a fabulous actress she is!
And yes; it took a moment or two to ‘get that joke’… lol 🙂

I found seeing the latest Downton Abbey was like catching up with old friends. I knew that joke would take a moment or two to register, but I thought it was worth it. Thank you for commenting Carolyn

Today’s Learning Trait is very important in an era of ideological news outlets. I remember my childhood friend’s parents had a cat clock. The moving eyes were cool.
“March 1st” hahaha!

I was rather surprised by how quickly people were ready to give up their own freedom as well as the freedom of others. It really is a different time today, some things much better and some other things lost. We currently have three of those clocks in the home, plus have given a few away. That March joke takes a moment or two, but well worth it. Glad to hear Priscilla that you liked it. Sorry for the delayed response. I’m not always healthy (smile)

Yes and no. I have been lucky enough to drive the bridge a few times this year (its been a few years since I last drove it). To this day, when driving the left lane (metal grates) I feel like I am riding on ice. My choice is to drive left lane (45mph/70kph) and grip the steering wheel tight or ride w/ the trucks in the smooth right lane (20mph/30kph). But either way the view is great and this year I was able to see the straight of Mackinac frozen over the first time.

Thank you very much Michael for commenting. Either lane on the bridge is a driving experience. I tend to drive a little of both.

Such a great post! I really liked the trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era. I am watching the episodes already broadcast here in Italy for the second time, and I’m still enjoying each episode

Thank you Luisa for commenting. If one didn’t have a history with Downton Abbey, perhaps they would not enjoy the “A New Era”, but for me it was like catching up with old friends. Again, thank you for commenting and glad to hear you like the post. Words like that are so encouraging.
