BOOK OF THE WEEK

I have read and reviewed this book many times over the years and if you are serious about being extraordinary, I would check it out.

It’s Not How Good You Are,

It’s How Good You Want To Be (2003)

By Paul Arden

This uplifting and humorous little book provides a unique insight into the world of advertising and is a quirky compilation of quotes, facts, pictures, wit and wisdom – all packed into easy-to-digest, bite-sized spreads. If you want to succeed in life or business, this book is a must. (Source: Goodreads)

MOVIE OF THE WEEK

Man From Toronto (Netflix 2022)

I thought this sort of mindless movie was very funny at times. I’m not showing the trailer because I don’t think the trailer did the film justice, nor did the reviews.

It is still at times an extraordinarily funny movie and worth watching once.

MUSIC OF THE WEEK

I was going to say this is one of the most beautiful things ever created by humans; but as I look around, I see and hear beauty everywhere. So, I will just say I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do.

Cannon in D Major  (Composed about 1680–90)

Johann Pachelbel

Johann Pachelbel (baptised 1 September 1653 – buried 9 March 1706) was a German composer, organist, and teacher.

He composed a large body of sacred and secular music, have earned him a place among the most important composers of the middle Baroque era.

Pachelbel’s music enjoyed enormous popularity during his lifetime. Today, Pachelbel is best known for the Canon in D.

ART OF THE WEEK

The Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon.

The term acropolis is generic and there are many other acropoleis in Greece. During ancient times the Acropolis of Athens was known also more properly as Cecropia, after the legendary serpent-man, Cecrops, the supposed first Athenian king.

While there is evidence that the hill was inhabited as far back as the fourth millennium BC, it was Pericles (c. 495–429 BC) in the fifth century BC who coordinated the construction of the buildings.

The Parthenon and the other buildings were seriously damaged during the 1687 siege by the Venetians during the Morean War when gunpowder being stored in the Parthenon was hit by a Venetian bombardment and exploded. (Source: Wikipedia)

Choices

BOOK OF THE WEEK

I believe some of you will not like what this book says and these are the people who really need to read this book; however, I suspect they will not.

It is a short, easy to read, thought provoking book, consisting of 144 pages.

Life: A User’s Manual (1998)

Edited by John Miller with Eliza Finkelstein

Some of the excerpts included in this book will be familiar to many a reader. Most of the authors have instant name recognition.

What makes the book readable however is neither the familarity of the content nor the writer. It is the assemblage of thought brought together under five general [topics]: search, faith, love, meditation, death–all wonderfully provocative concepts that lend themselves to reflection. MOVIE OF THE WEEK

Persuasion (Netflix 2022)

Despite Dakota Johnson’s best efforts, the chaotically anachronistic Persuasion fails to convince as a worthwhile Austen adaptation. (Source: Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus)

Okay, the critics didn’t like the film and I could understand why a Jane Austen purest would not like this film.

With all that said, I thought the film was enjoyable and some excellent acting here and there, such as Anne (Dakota Johnson), Anne’s father (Richard E. Grant), Mr. Elliot (Henry Golding), and Mrs. Musgrove (Eve Matheson).
