2/26/18 – Rev. Billy Graham Died

CURRENT EVENTS (RECIENTES ACONTECIMIENTOS)

Rev. Billy Graham

The Rev. Billy Graham, a North Carolina farmer’s son who preached to millions in stadium events he called crusades, becoming a pastor to presidents and the nation’s best-known Christian evangelist for more than 60 years, died on Wednesday at his home in North Carolina. He was 99.

Billy Graham in Vietnam

I met a lot of interesting people when I was in Vietnam back in 1966-67 and here is a photo I took of Billy Graham on his visit to Vietnam.  In addition, I got to speak to him and shake hands with him.

PHYSICAL TRAITS (RASGOS FÍSICOS)

Honor Thy Temple (Honra Tu Templo)

If you think clothes don’t matter, you are mistaken.

Our clothing choices not only reflect our self-image, but other people judge us by our clothing choices.  Clothing has the power to make us appear extraordinary.

CHARACTER TRAITS (RASGOS DE CARÁCTER)

The Foundation for Being Extraordinary

(La Fundación para Ser Extraordinario)
I can’t think of a better reason to guard one’s thoughts.

SOCIAL TRAITS (RASGOS SOCIALES)

I can’t think of a better way to be extraordinary than this.

LEARNING TRAITS

(CARACTERÍSTICAS DE APRENDIZAJE)

Growth Keeps You Extraordinary

In most cases, the following is true.

MISCELLANEOUS (VARIADO)

The Odds & Ends of Being Extraordinary

(Las Probabilidades y Los Fines de Ser Extraordinarios)

I thought this was worth repeating.

Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding, as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

BOOK OF THE WEEK (LIBRO DE LA SEMANA)

This is the official companion to the MasterPiece presentation on PBS.

Lots of pictures, including some of Victoria’s own writing.  It reads fast and it is very informative.  I just started reading it and I am already on page 80. If you liked the series, you will like this book.

MUSIC OF THE WEEK (MÚSICA DE LA SEMANA)

Sorry folks, I just could not pass this song up.  Oh, I had this song selected before I learned of the death of Rev. Billy Graham–not connect at all with him.

As for a connection with me, I’m not saying anything.

    • Thank you Nanette for your encouraging comment and best wishes on your self-improvement journey. Yes, I have seen all episodes of the Crown and I found the Queen’s meeting with Rev. Bill Graham most interesting, as I had also met Rev. Graham. Also, my meeting was much briefer and under far different circumstances. 🙂

  1. I admired Billy Graham and felt he accepted blacks as people, allowing the audience to be integrated sitting side by side before many people still didn’t believe in it!
I liked how you put the happiness quiz last month and talked about success mixed in with happiness here. Great post! 🎆🎉✨

  2. Oh, my post response for today disappeared. Hope you find it!
Anyway, I used the Desiderata often in my high school years as a prayer, it was on a tea colored paper framed over my bed. My walls in the attic were slanted and I could read them and they spoke to me about those who had more, those who had less but everyone has a story to tell. I put it on a post years ago, one I called making Lists. This Desiderata was the Best List of ways to understand others I could ever find!
