BOOK OF THE WEEK
If you have never taken an art history course and yet have an interest in Art, or perhaps you need a refresher from a former art history course, you may want to consider this book.
It is not an easy read, but it is very informative and the pictures are magnificent.

By Michael Wood, Bruce Cole, & Adelheid Gealt
This magnificently illustrated book explorers the greatest art and architecture of Western civilization. The book traces the history of Western art from its classical roots in ancient Greece up to the present day.,

MOVIE OF THE WEEK
I’ve seen many seasons of this show (Currently Season 13 is being aired and a Season 14 is in the works). I enjoyed it so much, I decided to start from the beginning and see every episode.

ART OF THE WEEK
Do you see perhaps, just a cart driving to a city. Maybe you should look a bit more closely.
The Phantom Cart (1933)
By Salvador Dalí
In Phantom Cart, we see, at the centre of a bright arid plain, a two-wheeled wagon heading towards a city. The shape of the cart seems to blend with the city, thus becoming its own destination. The effect is an illusion of perspective in which the painter uses his skill to try to confuse us.
Where we expect to see the wheels, there are instead two stakes driven into the ground. The characters seen sitting in the wagon are identified with the architecture of the city in the background.
In this painting, as in other optical illusions used by the painter, “We see a cart and a city or both elements at the same time.”

Thank you Priscilla for commenting. Dali was certainly an interesting personality. Adrien Brody was excellent as Dali in the film Midnight in Paris.

That is so cool Lorna. I don’t believe I have seen Season 13–yet. I’ve started over from the beginning and I am now on Episode 2 of Season 3. It is almost like watching it for the first time–key word is “almost”. Thank you for commenting.
