Happy New Year

Book of the Week

You may find it difficult to obtain this book at a reasonable price, but what an opportunity to learn something of the people who shaped the world during their time, as well as something about leadership.

The former president draws portraits of major political and military figures of his time–including MacArthur, Shigeru Yoshida, Adenauer, de Gaulle, Zhou Enlai, Mao, Churchill, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev (Source: Amazon)

Movie of the Week

I can’t think of a better way to start the year off than watching

However, I’m guessing you Dylan fans will want to watch

A Complete Unknown (Dec. 25, 2024)

I saw both last week.

Art of the Week

It is possible for honest and well intentioned people to be exposed to the same set of circumstances and come up with vastly different views.

And if these same people are exposed to a vastly different set of circumstances, it is even far more likely they will come up with vastly different views.

For example, many see a young woman in the above picture, but others see an old woman. Both are correct.

Perhaps, we should all be more tolerant of people,

who don’t see things, as we see them.

 Character Traits

Here is a story that demonstrates true character

(If it isn’t true, it should be)

Nancy Sinatra, when a child,  held a party and her father Frank, played host.

A little girl accidentally leaned against a table knocking off and breaking one of a pair of porcelain birds. Nancy gasped, “That was one of my mother’s favorite items.”

Frank walked over to the table and knocked the other bird off the table and it too, broke into pieces.

Frank then said to the little girl who was crying, “That’s okay, kid. Accidents happen.”

  1. I love The Monkees! I’ve seen Love, Actually (great movie!). I haven’t seen A Complete Unknown … oh, it’s brand new, no wonder I haven’t heard of it.😂 The hubster and I watched A Million Ways to Die in the West. It’s SO funny (inappropriately so, but sometimes I just laugh anyway).

    Happy New Year, Wm!

  2. I had no idea Love Actually was so popular. It holds a special place for me because it was one of the last movies I saw with my brother who passed away in 2011. I realize that by not seeing it again I was holding sadness at bay, but enough time’s passed that I think I’d enjoy it now.

PS: I’ve always loved that old woman/young woman drawing, and what a great metaphor you made to demonstrate the power of perception. 🙂

    • Sorry for the loss of your brother. Yes, I believe the film has become a classic. It sends a nice message in a non-preachy way. Thank you very much about your comments regarding the “You Woman/Old Woman. Now that I think about it, I suspect it could also demonstrate how quickly life passes. It seems I was young not so long ago–what the heck happened 😊

  3. Thanks, Allen. I appreciate it.
And as for time–completely with you on that front! It literally seems like just a few years ago, being young, doesn’t it? Part of me still feels like it’s 30. But I figure as long as I don’t dress like I’m 25, I’ll be fine, lol 🙂
