The Art of Living

By Epictetus

Interpretation by Sharon Lebell

Epictetus was born into slavery about 55 ce in the eastern outreaches of the Roman Empire.

He established an influential school of Stoic philosophy, stressing that human beings cannot control life, only their responses to it.  (Source: Amazon)

Movie of the Week

I found this Netflix film enjoyable, in large part because Kristin Chenoweth simply steals the show whenever she is on the screen.

The video below will show some larger than life people,

shaping the world or trying to shape it.

It was an amazing time to be alive.

Extraordinary Person of the Week

I was in Iran during 1965 and some of 1966 with the US Military advisory and Assistance Group. No government is perfect, but I saw first hand that the Iranian people, especially women, had considerable freedom.

Shah of Iran

The Shah and his wife Farah

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (26 October 1919 – 27 July 1980), commonly referred to in the Western world as  simply the Shah, was the last monarch of Iran (Persia).

His vision of the “Great Civilization” led to rapid industrial and military modernization, as well as economic and social reforms in Iran.

The Shah initiated major investments in infrastructure, subsidies  and land for peasant populations, profit sharing for industrial workers, construction of nuclear facilities, nationalization of Iran’s natural resources, and literacy programs which were considered some of the most effective in the world.

Art of the Week

One could say that the Apple Watch is a work of art.

Physical Traits

Perhaps at first, you may not like eating healthy, but that will change over time.  Plus:

 Character Traits

Social Traits

Sometimes people need some space

and

we should be sensitive to that.

Learning Traits

“Know it All” and “Toppers” are two very unbecoming traits

You would be wise to resist the temptation

to act like you know everything,

or to listen to someone’s experience,

and then describe how you had a greater experience.

  1. Little Secret does sound like a good movie. This week we watched The Gorge. Exciting movie. Sigourney Weaver plays a pivotal cameo role. I liked the history-makers video. I’m surprised I recognized so many of the people because half of the events were from before I was born.

  2. I don’t know where you find your jokes, but they ALWAYS make me laugh. The raccoon saying it doesn’t WANT to eat healthy is so true. Sometimes after hubby and I have been eating salads for dinner for days just the thought of lettuce makes us gag. Why CAN’T healthy food be made of chocolate?! lol
