For Those Who Missed Last Week’s Eclipse
BOOK OF THE WEEK
This little book is well worth reading.
Rules For A Knight
By Ethan Hawke
A knight, fearing he may not return from battle, writes a letter to his children in an attempt to leave a record of all he knows.
In a series of deep thoughts on solitude, humility, forgiveness, honesty, courage, grace, pride, and patience, he draws on the ancient teachings of Eastern and Western philosophy, and on the great spiritual and political writings of our time.
His intent: to give his children a compass for a journey they will have to make alone, a short guide to what gives life meaning and beauty.
MOVIE OF THE WEEK
Franklin is an biographical drama miniseries about the United States Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, based on Stacy Schiff’s 2005 book A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America. It was released on Apple TV+ on April 12, 2024.
Franklin (2024)
After seeing this film, if you would like to know more about Benjamin Franklin, I suggest you read this book by Carl Van Soren:
Warning
It is well written and interesting reading,
but I must warn you that it is 845 pages.
MUSIC OF THE WEEK
Still one of my favorite songs.
She Drives Me Crazy (1988)
By Fine Young Cannibals
EXTRAORDINARY PERSON OF THE WEEK
Obviously, this book would never have been possible without Uncle Tony.
There were four other people who also made this book possible.
Each week I plan to introduce one of them. In alphabetical order, the fourth is:
Tony
No, he isn’t Uncle Tony; but he made significant contributions to so many topics covered in this book. He is without doubt one of the very best managers I have ever come across, and I am sure anyone who ever reported to Tony would agree.
ART OF THE WEEK
This is one of my favorite paintings.
Paris Street; Rainy Day (1877)
By Gustave Caillebotte
As with many of Caillebotte’s paintings, it remained with the family until the mid twentieth century. It was acquired by Walter P. Chrysler Jr. in 1955, who in turn sold it to the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964.

I laughed so hard at your beer eclipse video! I did see the eclipse. It was fun. It was more fun because we were right next to an elementary school, and as soon as totality happened, the kids cheered and carried on. Made the event even more exciting, and I was happy the kids got to go outside and see it.

I’m delighted Priscilla that you enjoyed the beer eclipse video and that you also go to see the actual eclipse. I found it interesting that things got dark and chilly rather quickly. In south eastern Michigan we saw about 99% of the eclipse.
