CURRENT EVENTS
Detroit Zoo Wild Lights
Last week, we went to the Detroit Zoo Wild Lights show and if you live in the Detroit area, you should consider going. Years ago, we used to go to the Toledo, Ohio Zoo; who also put on a Christmas light show. So, if you don’t live near Detroit, perhaps a zoo near you is putting on Christmas light show. If not, you may want to suggest your local zoo consider it for next year. I suspect it is a good fund raiser and if nothing else, it may get more people interested in visiting the local zoo.
For those of you who think a zoo is a terrible thing, please consider that the conditions in which the animals are maintained has much improved over the years. Plus, how else would many of us be able to actually see many of these amazing animals.
Wild Lights, the Detroit Zoo’s annual holiday light display presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, receives glowing reviews each year by visitors who have made it a holiday tradition. Guests will enjoy masterfully designed light displays and festive vignettes featuring millions of twinkling LED lights illuminating buildings, trees, sculptures and a walk-through light tunnel!
Wild Lights runs from Nov. 19, 2022, to Jan. 8, 2023, on select weeknights and most Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. Most Fridays and Saturdays, the event will take place from 5 to 10:30 p.m.
BOOK OF THE WEEK
I guess you could call this a poetry book and I understand that many of you don’t care much for poetry. However, I think you will find this book far different from most poetry books.
There’s A Hole In My Sidewalk
By Portia Nelson
One of the poems in this book is called, “Autobiography in Five Chapters”. This fantastic poem was written by Portia Nelson.
Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.
Chapter 2
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place
but, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
Chapter 5
I walk down another street.

Thank you Priscilla for your good wishes regarding my upcoming contest. It is unsanctioned, so it is really just for fun and to support the gym owners and their charity. I really like that poem, “Autobiography in Five Chapters”.

Bill, I always enjoy your posts and am SO happy I’m here! You never cease to amaze me at how much goodness, humor, and thoughtfulness you place in your posts! The Christmas lights are beautiful ~we have a zoo nearby doing the same. I love them! Great pictures! The poetry book gave me an idea. I’ve struggled with my autobiography and my blog is pieces of my life. What a fantastic way to cover your life. In simplest terms mine would be, “let it go”. But there’s more to it. Thank you for choosing to give nods to an outstanding musician and lady! God bless her soul! I’ll have to check out that movie too. Please take care and I’m sending best wishes on your last event of the year!
