Happy Groundhog Day

Book of the Week

Please be careful when reading.

Movie of the Week

I think this is my favorite movie because it is about a person who lives the same day over and over until he finally gets it right.

Isn’t that what we are all trying to do or should be trying to do!

Extraordinary Creature of the Week

Don’t allow other people’s expectations

determine how you live your life.

Art of the Week

When every day things are aligned.

You can create some interesting art.

Joke of the Week

I found it rather hard to believe anyone would attempt to have cats deliver mail, so I did a little research. This is what I found:

Yes, cats were used to deliver mail in the 1870s in Liège, Belgium. The Belgian Society for the Elevation of the Domestic Cat proposed the idea.

How it worked
  • Cats were rounded up from villages near Liège
  • Waterproof bags were attached to their collars
  • The cats were taken a few miles away and given a note in the bag
  • The cats were expected to return home with the note
Why it didn’t last long
  • The delivery speed was inconsistent
  • Some cats took up to a day to reach their destination
Note: If something doesn’t seem likely, do a little research before passing it on. That is “critical thinking”, a bit of a lost art.

  1. That Courtney Carver quote fits me to a T. I have very few clothes (or stuff, come to think of it). Too many things around me make it harder to focus on whatever I’m working on at the moment. I wonder if that means I have ADD… huhn. Well, if I DO have ADD, decluttering is a good way to manage it!

  2. Happy Groundhog Day, Bill! I’m still giggling at your funny memes. Wonderful music and movie choices, too! Great nuggets of wisdom in research–and yes, what is the culture on a Sunday night? Truth! I’m sorry I’ve been a bit under the weather, my friend. The flu bug caught up with me. Between work and balancing it all with health, I’m not a consistent reader. But I hope you know I’m a consistent friend! You’re work is a treasure! Take care, dear friend.

  3. Many people I know loathe Groundhog Day! I’m always baffled by this, ’cause it’s one of my favorites too. It’s not like they didn’t do a good job with it, where we see different things happening from different perspectives and the gradual shift in Bill Murray’s mindset that finally gets him out of there. Maybe people are annoyed to be reminded that self-interest is a dead end and only empathy really matters? lol

    • I thought it was both an entertaining film, which also had a message. Like you, I am a bit baffled by folks who don’t like it. As you suggest, perhaps the film hits too close to home. Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
