Book of the Week

I have read or reviewed my highlighting and notes in this book over 15 times since I bought it in 2013. Although it was written for athletes, I believe you will find much in it, that is useful in everyday life or whatever endeavors you are into.

Extraordinary Person of the Week

Alexander the Great or Diogenes?

Or Both

Alexander the Great — the most powerful conqueror of his time — once had one of history’s most iconic and unexpected encounters with a philosopher named Diogenes?

Alexander, intrigued by Diogenes’ radically simple life, approached him with admiration and said:
“Ask me for anything. I will grant your wish.”

Diogenes, completely unimpressed, replied:
“Step aside. You’re blocking my sunlight.”

Fascinating Facts:

This legendary exchange is one of the most famous stories of the ancient world, highlighting Diogenes’ rejection of material wealth.

Alexander was so struck by the response, he reportedly said:
“If I weren’t Alexander, I would want to be Diogenes.”

Diogenes lived in a barrel, rejected all luxuries, and lived by brutal honesty — earning both admiration and scorn.

  1. Snickers is my favorite candy bar. I eat one only about once every other year because they are so addictive!

Diogenes never had a clutter problem! We in Western society could really learn a lot from him.

      • My pleasure Bill and you too.
        Take care.
Not sure if I ever mentioned mum’s r.i.p. late cousin’s husband was John Allen from Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

      • Again, thank you Margaret. I’m what they call Scotch-Irish in the States. I went to Scotland and they usually spell Allen as “Allan”, whereas, in Ireland it is usually spelled “Allen”. The Allens arrived here during Colonial times, so the odds of me having in relatives is Ireland has been lost to history. However, I did have a great Uncle Johnny Allen.

      • Apologies for late reply Bill.
Thanks for your interesting info re Allen/Allan.
I suppose Scotch is Americanised spelling.
Remember once asking someone were they Scotch & reply was ‘yes I’m Scottish, scotch is a drink’.
My late mum’s late uncle Andrew moved over from Donegal to Glasgow after marriage & spent all his life there.
I could write more detail here about that but not time.
        Happy memories 😊🌞
