Spring Is Here
BOOK OF THE WEEK
This is definitely a different perspective on Genghis Khan. If you like history, I believe you will like this book.
Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World
By John C. Maxwell
Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World (2004) is a history book written by Jack Weatherford, Dewitt Wallace Professor of Anthropology at Macalester College. It is a narrative of the rise and influence of Genghis Khan and his successors, and their influence on European civilization. Weatherford provides a different slant on Genghis Khan than has been typical in most Western accounts, attributing positive cultural effects to his rule. (Source: Wikipedia)

I just finished again watching this complete collection of the Granada Television series, starring Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.
If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes stories, you should check out this series and if you have seen it some time ago, you may want to consider watching it again.

MUSIC OF THE WEEK
I thought this Siberian group was pretty wild and wanted to share it with you.
Storm (2022)
By Otyken
Background
Otyken is a Siberian indigenous music group that mixes elements of modern pop with local folk music, incorporating traditional instruments, lyrics, and languages.
‘Otyken’ is a Chulym word for a sacred land where warriors would lay down their arms and talk. The band was formed in 2015 by Andrey Medonos, and their debut album was released in 2018.
As of January 2023, the group has over two million followers on Tiktok, over one hundred and twenty thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and three hundred thousand subscribers on YouTube.
The band members are of Siberian ethnicities and live in tiny villages along the Chulym river.
ART OF THE WEEK
Family photos are a common tradition and I believe practically all of you have had one or more of them taken over the years. My family certainly isn’t large, but I think the artist, Lindsey; has done an excellent job of capturing our inner uniqueness far more than any photographer could.
Below is me, Bear and Carol.
EXTRAORDINARY PERSON OF THE WEEK
Genghis Khan

Genghis Khan (c. 1162 — 25 August 1227) was the founder of the Mongol Empire, which later became the largest contiguous land empire in history.
Having spent the majority of his life uniting the Mongol tribes, he launched a series of military campaigns which conquered large parts of China and Central Asia.
The Mongol campaigns started by Genghis Khan saw widespread destruction and millions of deaths in the areas they conquered. The Mongol army he built was renowned for its flexibility, discipline, and organisation, while his empire established upon meritocratic principles. Genghis Khan also codified the Mongol legal system, promoted religious tolerance, and encouraged pan-Eurasian trade through the Pax Mongolica.
He is revered and honored in modern Mongolia as a symbol of national identity and a central figure of Mongolian culture. (Source: Wikipedia)

I hadn’t thought about it before, but I think it’s true: If you hate someone, you are already defeated by them.

Yes. I have heard it said, “The reason we forgive people, is not for their sake; but, for our own.” As always Priscilla, I look forward to hearing your weekly comments on the blog posts. Thank you.
