Happy Mother’s Day
In recognition of Mother’s Day, I dedicate this one to all you moms out there.
BOOK OF THE WEEK
This book came out in 2012 and I first read it in 2013. I recently reviewed it again and I think it contains some very worthwhile things to consider. I just ordered an updated version of this book that came out in October 20, 2020. I’m anxious to see what has changed.
The Great Cholesterol Myth
By Jonny Bowden, Ph.D. & Stephen Sinatra, M.D>
MOVIE OF THE WEEK
I really think everyone should see this film to appreciate how far American society has evolved since 1962, which is the period of this film. I was two years away from my high school graduation, and in 1964 I was in the Army. Unlike so much today, I think this film is fairly legit.
The Green Book (2018)
This film is inspired by the true story of a 1962 tour of the Deep South by African American pianist Don Shirley and Italian American bouncer and later actor Frank “Tony Lip” Vallelonga, who served as Shirley’s driver and bodyguard.
Written by Farrelly alongside Lip’s son Nick Vallelonga and Brian Hayes Currie, the film is based on interviews with Lip and Shirley, as well as letters Lip wrote to his then-wife. It is named after The Negro Motorist Green Book, a guide book for African American travelers founded by Victor Hugo Green in 1936 and published until 1966.
Film Background
Tony and Dolores Vallelonga’s son, Frank Jr., appears as his own uncle, Rudy (Rodolfo) Vallelonga (who says, “I’m just saying, we’re an arty family”), while their younger son (and the film’s co-producer and co-screenwriter), Nick, appears as Augie, the Mafioso who offers Tony a job doing “things” while the Copacabana is under renovation.
The real Rodolfo Vallelonga appears as his own father, Grandpa Nicola Vallelonga, while the real Louis Venere appears as his own father, Grandpa Anthony Venere.
Another co-producer and co-screenwriter, Brian Currie, plays the Maryland State Trooper who helps out in the snow storm.

ART OF THE WEEK
Whistler’s Mother
By James McNeill Whistler
Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1, best known under its colloquial name Whistler’s Mother, is a painting in oils on canvas created by the American-born painter James McNeill Whistler in 1871.
The subject of the painting is Whistler’s mother, Anna McNeill Whistler. It is exhibited in and held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, having been bought by the French state in 1891. It is one of the most famous works by an American artist outside the United States.
It has been variously described as an American icon and a Victorian Mona Lisa.

What a nice thing to do to dedicate your post to mothers. I especially liked the cartoon of the Mother saying about Dinner Again.
